Dress Waistlines Defined
Basque or dropped waist adds illusion of extra height, slims and makes long waist appear shorter. Empire waistline hides figure flaws through middle of the torso, especially a thick waist.
Waistlines
- Basque: elongated waistline dips to a āVā at front center of the dress; often starts 3ā below natural waist.
- Dropped: waist falls about 3 to 5 inches below natural waistline.
- Empire: waistline flows from just below bust line.
- Natural: seam hits at the narrowest part of the torso.
- Raised: waistline sits about one inch above natural waist.
